Fantasy Warfare – Icon vs Icon: Sting vs Shawn Michaels

Sting vs Shawn Michaels

Icon vs Icon

It doesn’t get much bigger than this!

Everyone craves Sting vs The Undertaker, and yes, everything they could put into the match would be cool from a character and storytelling standpoint. But the match I really want to see from a pure wrestling standpoint is the Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels take on the Stinger. Shawn Michaels is known for stealing the show in the post-Hogan era. Michaels put himself on the map by putting on bell-to-bell classics with the likes of Razor Ramon and Bret Hart. Even after he had to take 4 years off, he returned and put on even better matches with guys like Chris Jericho, John Cena, Batista, Triple H, The Undertaker, and Ric Flair. And while he was putting on such great matches he seldom held the World Championship.

On the other hand, Sting is the only big star from WCW that I think could go in the ring with HBK from bell to bell. Sting managed to turn himself into a big star by having classics with the Nature Boy, Vader, and Rick Rude. He took everything thrown at him and turned it into gold whether he was working Hogan, Nash, or even freaking Vampiro. Sting was for WCW what The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels were for the WWF/E. He was the flag bearer. He was LOYAL. He never left, no matter what BS politics were going on backstage. Not to mention Sting’s incredible run in TNA, where he worked bell-to-bell classics with Kurt Angle, Jeff Jarrett, AJ Styles, etc.

Both men were fantastic in the ring and are arguably in the top 20 of all time. They bled loyalty for their home promotions and never veered away. Both men are multiple-time World Champions and both won every major title their company had to offer.

So who wins?

This is such a tough match to call. I can see a 25-30 minute back-and-forth affair. However, there can only be one winner, and that would be good ole’ HBK, Shawn Michaels.

What do you think? Who would win in this epic encounter of Icons? Let us know in the comments below!
